This is the first of many blog posts to come for my Digital Journalism class with professor Herb Lowe. Although I have had some previous blog experience, it has been rather informal, and I think I will find this a pleasant change of pace.
In this course, we will each be following a particular publication and their take on popular headline topics. This semester my beat follows The Oregonian, with which I have had limited experience. I'm still working on whether or not it is pronounced Or-e-gon or like a familiar church instrument.
Regardless of pronunciation, I'm looking forward to news from a West coast perspective compared to the usual Washington Post or New York Times. As a matter of fact I almost attended a University just north of the lovely state of Oregon, where I would have had much exposure to the wilderness and city life of Portland.
I look forward to learning news from a different perspective and a different coast, as well as developing an appreciation for digital journalism and the technology advancements that benefit the news experience.
